MSMobileNews Christmas Gadget Guide: Day 4 Print E-mail

Written by Brody

Taking the baton from Nedge here is my first, and the penultimate entry into the MSMobileNews.com Christmas Gadget Guide, today it's a very high profile gadget, the iPod Nano.

What is it?

Apple's smallest colour screen MP3 player - the iPod Nano.

Why is it cool?

We all know the audio capabilities of the iPod range but what makes the Nano really stand out is its size, its so thin and yet houses a beautiful colour screen and up to 4GB of storage.

Is it any good?

It sure is, whether you're commuting to work, or relaxing at home theirs always a time when you'll fancy listening to music and the size of the Nano means that you can always carry it with you. The original iPods hold more songs but the Nano can hold 1000 songs in its 4GB incarnation making it more than worthy of your hard earned cash. Yes there are other players out there that offer removable batteries, FM radio and voice recording but do they look as cool as the Nano, the answer, without even thinking about it is no. A lot has been made about the build quality of the Nano and in particular the durability of its screen, Apple have stated that its screen is made of the same material as previous iPods and I have to say that I've not got any complaints. The screen on my Nano has the usual blemishes that you would expect from carrying it in the same pocket as your keys, if you're really worried about scratching it then you can always buy a silicon case and screen protector, they provide added protection whilst not adding too much bulk, however you will obviously compromise the look of your Nano. Ultimately the Nano will sell based on the success of its family name and a strong marketing campaign however you can't argue with the wow factor of its size and audio quality.

I want one! How much? Where from?

The iPod Nano is available from the Apple store here for £139.00 (2 GB - 500 songs) and £179.00 (4 GB - 1000 songs) and comes in either black or white.

You can get a screen protector from Proporta Music's store here for £5.06 and a silicon case here for £10.17.
