MSMobileNews Christmas Gadget Guide: Day 2 Print E-mail
(0 votes)
Tuesday, 20 December 2005

Following on from Day 1 of the MSMobileNews Christmas Gadget Guide, we present Day 2!

Again, courtesy of www.Firebox.com, come these interesting little things:

What is it?

A Tamagotchi-style, inter-connectable, stick-man cube world!

Why is it cool?

Think Tamagotchi meets Stick Matrix and you'll be pretty close to understanding why. Each cube has it's own stick-man with it's own hobby. On their own you can watch them play with dogs, balls, sticks or skipping ropes and play games with them yourself but when you connect them they interact with each other. The cubes even have motion sensors which allow the men to react to how you handle the cubes!

Is it any good?

Yes and no. On their own, the cubes can become a bit samey with the men just scrolling through the same routines and games being very simple and repetitive. Although you can spice this up a bit by shaking or turning the cube and annoying it's occupant. Luckily they come in pairs and you can connect up to 16 cubes to get a bit of variation. For example, one man could walk into the other's cube and start a full on fist fight, play some tug-of-war, have a game of leapfrog or play fetch with the dog. Again with just two cubes this can be a bit repetitive but when you start to collect all four different types, connect them together and maybe even buy more it can be great fun to watch. With just a pair of cubes you could become disappointed fairly quickly so my advice would be to start off with four as there would be much more variation available and when you make a tower you can get the men to bungee jump down it! The more cubes you have the more random the behaviour and that's where I think the appeal in these things lays.

I want one! How much? Where from?

You can buy a pair of cubes for £19.95 from Firebox, HERE
