Conclusion and reader's comments

Conclusion

This phone is one hell of a mixed bag; so many good points but at the same time, quite a few bad ones. It has some really great hardware but then gets let down by poor build quality. It has handy, well thought out applications that get let down by what I hope are just mistakes/oversights.

If built in GPS is a must for you and you're into the Tron-esque design cues of this device (I know I am!) then the G500 could we be for you - as long as you don't mind the dodgy build quality. Of course if 128MB of memory isn't enough for you, you could go for the G500+ with 256MB of memory.

All in all a nice idea but poor execution. Better luck next time Eten.

i don't really agree with the "dodgy" build quality in both application exclusives and hardware. as far as the actual phone is concerned, it survived some so horrific that happened. it fell into a storm drain (luckily it was dry in there). i ultimately lost the battery, but recovered everything else. it still works flawlessly. the OS (Windows Mobile 5.0), as always has 3RD party apps. i downloaded one that gave the UI a facelift and so its finger friendly as well as being user friendly. it gave Windows Mobile another dimension to work with.

overall, this is the best phone i ever owned and i don't really care about it being a "brick". it keeps me connected from anywhere i am. i do miss having the high speed internet vis EDGE or 3G, but its something i can live without. i bought and use a WiFi card. i could sacrifice the internal WiFi for the GPS. i give the phone a 4.5/5 stars
