The UK’s leading real-time traffic information provider RAC Trafficmaster Telematics (RTT) has just won a three year contract with Destinator Technologies, a leading provider of mobile navigation solutions. The deal will enable Destinator Technologies to provide real-time traffic information through Trafficmaster’s Radio Data System Traffic Message Channel (RDS TMC) service, to its Original Equipment (OE) customers.
This is a significant deal for Trafficmaster as in 2005 Destinator Technologies was the 3rd largest supplier of navigation software* within Europe - supplying software to a range of well known navigation device manufacturers, including Acer, LG and Evesham.
The RAC Trafficmaster RDS TMC service will be available on Destinator Technologies’ software from Q2 2006. This will enable Destinator’s customers to access RAC Trafficmaster’s unrivalled up-to-the minute traffic information collated from over 7,500 roadside sensors which calculate the speed of traffic on the UK’s motorway and trunk road network, plus incident information from police forces and local authorities that is collated by the RAC to warn drivers of road closures and road works.
The RDS TMC service will be displayed as icons on detailed mapping and will be used to automatically guide the driver around traffic jams. Through agreements with GCap Media and Chrysalis Radio, the traffic information is broadcast to the handheld units through the RDS bandwidth of their commercial radio stations.
Destinator Technologies will be funding marketing and promotion campaigns of the RDS TMC service and the relevant brands in the UK marketplace.
