Yesterday we saw what can only be described as a barbaric attack on innocent commuters in London, I myself commute into London every weekday and in fact take the train to London Kings Cross which was one of the stations targeted, thankfully I do not take the tube and normally aim to be in the office by 8am which meant that I was at my desk when the attacks began. Some of my colleagues were even closer to the events to the extent of missing the affected tubes by minutes but thankfully no-one was involved.
The bus in Tavistock Square, quite literally around the corner from where I work
Working between Chancery Lane, Kings Cross and Russell Square I can only look back on a morning of sirens, closed windows and blinds (I presume to save us from the potential of the windows being blown in) and being locked in our office wondering what could have been. We have all seen terror attacks on the TV and Internet but to be quite literally around the corner from a bus and tube trains being blown up is quite a strange feeling. I would however say this, I heard that bus being blown up, I work easily close enough to Russell Square to have been affected by it yet luckily saw every last one of my work colleagues walk into work, at worst a little late, of this I am thankful and, although being shaken, this will not stop my fellow commuters and I from travelling into work once normal services have resumed. These terrorists may have made the headlines but they have achieved nothing, all they have done is needlessly murder some innocent people, for that I hope that they are punished whether they are hiding like the cowards that they are or whether they are already being punished wherever you or I may believe death takes you.
Yesterday should have been a proud day for London, before 9am we were all brandishing the different newspapers around the office looking at the development plans for the 2012 Olympics; unfortunately it looks like those celebrations will have to be put on hold.
Our thoughts are with those affected by yesterdayÂ’s tragic events and will be for some time.
