As you may have seen there are some ROM updates floating about on the old interweb, and they all offer the same shiney Windows Media Player 10, we have the offical Orange France update, the leaked Orange UK update and most recently is the QTek update. Whilst we understand that its your phone and you can do whatever you like with it, I whole heartedly recommend not using those updates, and before your start with your 'OI beery you silly man, I want Media Player 10!' I'll let you into a secret... TOMTOM MOBILE DOESN'T WORK WITH ANY OF THOSE UPDATES!!!! 'So what?!' I hear you cry, well the devil's in the details, as you know using www.spv-developers.com nbftool you can get any ROM onto any phone, the problem (is it a problem? Probably...) is that you can go up, but you cant go down in version number. So you have patched your ROM and its all flashed, your happy... The other half says 'lets go to $randomplace and do some shopping' (Milton Keynes is always good for getting lost in, so you pop in your TomTom SD card, pair the device and... ... ... ... ... Bugger all happens! You panic, sweat starts forming on your forehead, people get shouted at, things are going badly. The problem is that the ROM's don't work with TomTom 4, using their GPS receiver or the the other GPS receiver that you found in the glovebox. At the moment there are 3 choices 1) Use Mapopolis whilst you wait for TomTom to write a fix, and stick with Windows Media Player 10 2) Send your phone to HTC and get them to reflash it (probably wouldn't work as you voided the fixyfree thingy) 3) Try and roll back the ROM version
The roll back isn't as easy as you might think, at the moment www.spv-developers.com are working hard on getting a beeryproof way of changing bootloaders, there beta works for the Orange ROM's but doesn't work for the QTek and therefore probably wont work for the soon to be released IMate one either. If your even the tinyest bit scared of using things like 'emergency flash' and hacking tools then I recommend www.imei-check.co.uk. The clever guys there (hi andrew, goo gooo goo!!) have it sorted! So to cut a long story short, if you have QTek'd your phone and feel as silly as I did then visit www.imei-check.co.uk and they will sort it out.
(This message was not sponsored in any way by www.imei-check.co.uk or www.spv-developers.co.uk but if you can let me know what your drinking i'll get the next round!)
