I'm left slightly confused as to the exact details of Motorola's new range of Smartphones, not least because one isnt a Smartphone at all, its a Pocket PC Phone Edition. The previosuly named MPx300 has now been renamed to be simply called the MPx according to Motorola's latest press release and features a screen that hinges in two directions allowing for portrait or landscape viewing!
The Motorola MPx – live realtime
The power of Windows Pocket PC in a mobile phone! The ultimate in embedded connectivity through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPRS. The Motorola MPx views the world differently with a dual-hinge design that opens in both portrait and landscape.
The next big development as i'm sure you are all aware of is the supposedly low-end MPx100 but, to be honest, whats low-end about a Windows Mobile Smartphone with a built in 1.3 MegaPixel camera with flash, Java, Bluetooth and the potential for a GPS add-on kit!
And then there's this interesting comment on the Motorola site: Microsoft Windows Mobile™ software: Making the model MPx100 truly an extension of your desktop, this cutting-edge device supports a multitude of business applications including Microsoft Word®, Excel® and more. Word and Excel!? What are they working on? Lets hope that they are referring to editors as opposed to the standard viewers that we all know and 'love'.
So thats all well and good i hear you say, bring on these two phones, but hang on, there's something missing, oh yeah the phone that everyone was saving up for just two weeks ago! Where is the MPx220? There were supposedly leaked renders of the phone which suggested it was in development but now that Motorola have gone official with their new 'MotoPro' range it is nowhere to be seen? To be honest i think i'll be opting for the MPx100 in its candybar form but a clamshell alternative would have its own place in the market yet it is not spoken of? Perhaps this information will be released at a later date but it seems wierd that whilst promoting their work on the MPx100 and the MPx PPC that there is no mention of the MPx220?
