Exclusive to MSMobileNews comes the latest offering from Ultimasoftware, SmartCommander. SmartCommander acts as a remote control for your PC and can be connected either via Bluetooth or USB (Using ActiveSync).
I have been helping Ultimasnake in the testing of this app for the past couple of weeks and although itÂ’s still in its early stages of development, itÂ’s looking very promising. So far you can only control the left, right, up, down, left click of the mouse and map letters or words to the number keys on the phone but Ultimasnake has many more options planned:
Control Level
Fully control mouse (done)
Fully control keyboard (almost done)
Run applications
Open files
Info level
8 lines of programmable information such as:
Media player information (track name, time remaining etc.)
Application Level
Selectable control set profiles (media, game etc.)
Ultimasnake is holding off on releasing the app until he has most of the functions outlined above working correctly and assures me that that the first public release will be within the next couple of weeks.
As I said, so far only mouse and partial keyboard control is working but both work very well. Pressing left/right/up/down will move the cursor slightly whilst holding down the left/right/up/down will accelerate the movement of the cursor and of course the number of pixels it moves by is configurable in the “listener” app that runs on the PC, as is the mapping of the number keys for use as keyboard.
If Ultimasnake puts the same amount of detail in the rest of the functions as he has in the mouse/keyboard control than this app will be excellent and best of all, as with all Ultimasoftware products, this app will be free, which is great news for everyone.
