MSMobileNews Christmas Gadget Guide: Day 1 Print E-mail

As you know, we at MSMobileNews are ever so slightly gadget mad and we know that the majority of Smartphone / PocketPC users out there are also that way inclined. To that end, we bring you the MSMobileNews Christmas gadget guide! Over the next five days we'll be telling you about some great, affordable little gadgets that are sure to be a hit with all gadget lovers this Christmas.

My Christmas picks come courtesy of the lovely folks over at www.Firebox.com, the first of which being this little beauty:

What is it?

A helium filled, radio controlled, Goodyear blimp!

Why is it cool?

It's a big, huge radio controlled blimp, how can it not be cool!? Ok, it's for ages 8+ but don't let that put you off. You know your inner child is screaming out for one. Whether you want to chase your beloved pets round the house or sneak up behind a loved one you're sure to have some good wholesome blimp fun.

Is it any good?

You better believe it! It's a bit slow to react at times, doesn't come with batteries and getting the right balance is a nightmare but it rocks! Plus it only costs about £1 to get it filled up from any party type shop. You'll have to put up with walking down the street with the mother of all helium balloons but hey, at least you can be safe in the knowledge that those strange looks you're getting are just ones of jealousy Wink . Once you've made it back to your home without letting it fly off into the ether simply stick on the rudder fins, attach the motor unit, get it balanced and let it waft menacingly round the house. I've found that the ballast weights that come with it weren't quite enough to hold it mid-air but the addition of a hot water bottle stopper improved things greatly (much to my girlfriend's annoyance). Within minutes I was chasing the cat round the house and for once with a radio controlled toy, there was no escape for her! Be warned though, these beauties can sneak up on you without even you knowing! I left the blimp in the lounge while I went off to make some food and within ten minutes it had found its way into the kitchen and was poised right behind me. I got a bit of a shock to say the least. On the subject of shocks, don't let it near a TV! The blimp got stuck to the TV screen whilst chasing the cat and when my other half attempted to move it off, she got one hell of a static shock! My laughing didn't help matters.

I want one! How much? Where from?

You can but the Goodyear blimp for £39.95 (batteries not included) from Firebox, HERE.
