Today HTC announced their phone which is being aimed at the masses. It’s called the HTC Smart. HTC are saying that this is going to be a “new category of easy-to-use, connected smartphones that are accessible by people all over the world.  The HTC Smart will be available this spring across Europe and Asia.”

So we can expect to see this device soon. The Smart will be running Qualcomm’s Brew MP, a good and popular system for operating mobile phones. Using this OS rather than having yet another WinMo or Andriod based device will allow HTC to be a lot more competitive on pricing than they are with their other devices, making the HTC Smart more accessible to more people and expanding HTC’s market. I’m sure there will be many HTC fans out there looking forward to seeing this device in stores!

sample140x140 Now the Google phone has a name, and it’s called the Nexus One! Obviously being Google’s own device it is running Android 2.1, and people are already claiming it’s an Iphone killer… but is it too early to tell? Apple really have a big hitter with the Iphone and it would be a challenge for anyone to knock them off of that spot.

The Nexus One however, is a very attractive device. My personal opinion is; it looks a more futuristic and smoother version of the iPhone.

It will be no surprise to consumers that the HD2 has been confirmed to be one of the first devices to have access to the Windows Mobile   7 update. The rate at which this device has been upgraded since it’s release make it one of the fastest updated devices ever.

With this announcement from HTC they are saying that the HD2 meets the hardware requirements set by Microsoft to allow the device to run WinMo 7. The HD2, as we all know, is well stocked with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 448 MB of RAM, as well as other high punching numbers that can be linked with this device. It is one of the most powerful device we have seen which begs the question, to me, of “How demanding IS WinMo 7 going to be to the device?”

Just imagine it, being able to run Android and Windows mobile on the same handset! Well the guys over at VMware have achieved that dream.

They have got Android 2.0.1 to run on the previous generation of Windows Smartphone's (HTC Touch Diamond, Touch HD & Touch Pro). Its a dual boot system at the moment but in the future they are targeting being able to run two OS’s simultaneously . VMware has selected 3 different carriers (U.S, Australian & European) to begin prototyping phones for beta testing in 2011.

Zane Adam, Microsoft’s head of virtualisation’s argument is there is little or no demand for the service, productivity would drop and the consumer made the choice to stick with a certain OS at the time of purchase. The latter point he made i think there is room for argument. Should the consumer be tied down to  a certain OS when they’ve shelled out money for a device? for example, The HTC HD2, there huge demand for a very similar looking device but running Android, this is where VMware would be very handy.

Smartphone's are increasingly becoming similar to actual computers, so having the option to run whatever OS you want should be a option. Bring it on VMware!

MS Mobile and Xbox Live to pair up.

Firstly, I hope everyone had a good Christmas holidays and have recovered from the overeating everyone seems to indulge in over the festive period. I tried to keep today's news semi-relevant to something people might have gotten hold of over Christmas… and by the logo i think you can guess.

Microsoft have announced that they are looking for a Program manager for bringing Xbox live games to your Windows Mobile devices. For anyone who owns an Xbox 360 this will be a great piece of news being able to use your WinMo device to play games linked to your Xbox live account. At least that’s what consumers expect will be available. I think most people will also expect to have some form of remote control over their 360, which will also be very handy for any Xbox 360 owners.

I look forward to seeing how Microsoft set the ball rolling on this project.

HTC and Windows Mobile 7, by Q3 2010.

htc-corporation-logo-140x140So, as I posted a while ago about Windows Mobile 7, I thought I’d carry on with a bit more rummaging for news. Providing Windows stick to what is rumoured and don’t decide to make us wait until the new millennium  for Windows Mobile 7. We could start seeing HTC roll the OS out across its new handsets, that were leaked a couple of weeks ago, in the middle of 2010 so end of Q2 and early Q3. Will be interesting to see the HTC handsets with the new OS, I myself am liking the look of the “HTC Salsa”.

HTC is the biggest producer of handsets that run Windows Mobile and it looks like they plan to carry on this trend with the introduction of their new devices in 2010. And I’m sure that HTC will get plenty of support from all the HTC fans that are out there, and they seem to be getting more and more people interested in the companies catalogue of handsets across the board.

I’d also like to remind people that there is only 3 shopping days until Christmas, and most online stores are selling out of gadgets and gizmos that are in high demand and final order days seem to be falling as a uniform on the 23rd… so if there is anyone you have missed getting gifts for then hurry!
